THE SOUND OF NOW
That’s how the transatlantic shoegaze trio bloom effect define themselves. Formed by Argentine-born Jula Lafit (vocals/bass), UK-born Craig Weighman (guitar), and drummer Tom Rappa, the band crafts ethereal yet powerful soundscapes shaped by cultural hybridity and emotional depth. Drawing on influences like Cocteau Twins, Alvvays, and Ringo Deathstarr, they weave English and Spanish lyrics into reverb-drenched, cathartic dream-pop.
In early 2025, bloom effect released their debut EP portents via Shore Dive Records. Conceived as a four-part cycle, the EP’s singles combined into a visual and sonic portal—layered, emotionally charged, and critically embraced with features on Obscure Sound and airplay on KEXP, DKFM Shoegaze Radio, and CiTR.
Their live presence has proven just as magnetic. From JUNOFest, Westward Music Festival, Music Waste, and Desert Daze North, to opening stages for Zoon and Ladytron, bloom effect has established themselves as one of Vancouver’s most exciting rising acts. Their debut live session, Once More with Feeling, captured at Little Red Sound Studios, showcased their raw performance energy.
Now, bloom effect unveil their sophomore EP, oscilón—a swirling, cinematic body of work described by the band as “a sonic vessel for cosmic, euphoric love.” Released via cult Vancouver label Kingfisher Bluez, the record is now available on digital and vinyl, expanding their vision beyond the local and into the universal.
In September 2025, bloom effect will embark on their first East Coast tour across Ontario and Quebec, further cementing their presence in the Canadian music scene.
